In 2019 an updated METAPOST library showed up in LUAMETATEX, and, using the additional extension interface, support for contour plots was added. This graphic was one of the tests and it reminded me of a history teacher explaining that it sometimes looks like idea that "l'histoire se répète". Let's just hope that errors from the past don't get repeated in the years ahead.
